Crayola Pastel 24 Crayons

Crayola keeps surprising us every year and 2023 is no different. Crayola sneakily put these Pastel crayons into Walmart this year. One of my amazing followers emailed me about this and let me know where to find them. As soon as they appeared online I ordered the box.

The box contains 24 colors with the 4 new colors from the Colors of Kindness box and a brand new crayon color named Slate. This has not a crayon before and does not get announced because it is a Walmart exclusive. It is a super big deal though. A new crayon color!

The Pastel crayons are not the regular crayon formula, but use the pearl formulation. They are different colors than the regular pearl crayons. I have no idea if they will retire the other Pearl crayons. These are sold exclusively at Walmart this year, but will be available at other stores next year probably.

Here is the swatch info for the crayons. I would not say 100% pastel, but a good mix of crayons. They claim to be able to swatch on black paper, but the Bold and Bright crayons are much better on dark paper. These only have a few colors that show up, white, yellow, kind of green, blue and pinkish and do not represent the true color at all on black.

Crayola 24 Bold & Bright Construction Paper Crayons

It seems like every year Crayola is releasing some new crayons. 2022 is no exception. This year Crayola has released the new Bold and Bright Construction Paper Crayons. The construction paper crayon box used to be only 16 crayons, but now includes 6 more colors. They have named all the crayons and have included the new Crayellow color which is very similar to the retired Dandelion crayon, but slightly different.

Crayola 24 Cosmic Crayons

Crayola has been throwing new crayons out like crazy. Just in the past couple years 6 new specialty boxes have come out; Confetti, Glitter, Pearl, Neon, Metallic and now Cosmic crayons in 2021. Right now the only way to buy these is in store at Walmart. I was not able to find them in my local Walmart and luckily a follower sent them to me. I am so grateful! Here is the swatches for the colors.

The colors in this box are space themed. The crayons are INCREDIBLY hard to read. I have no idea why Crayola put silver writing and not black writing on this wrapper. I can not read it at all. They are a combination of pearl and metallic crayons.

Collecting Information

Crayola has released a box named Cosmic Colors crayons before. I have the box. It contained 16 neon and 16 gemtone crayons. I have the box, but have not put it on the website yet. The color palettes are not the same at all.

Crayola 24 Confetti Crayons

2020 and 2019 have been great years for those that LOVE specialty crayons, like me. Specialty crayons began my love for Crayola crayons. In 2019 Crayola brought back pearl crayons. And then in 2020 Confetti crayons appeared on the market at Walmart. I first heard about them in our collecting facebook group. People were beyond excited and were super excited to check their local Walmart to see if they had them. My Walmart is going through a major renovation and did not have them. Luckily Crayola surprised me by sending me a couple boxes. I was so excited and so was my daughter. I have bought her all the specialty crayons.

These crayons are the same as the Colour Bursts and Color Mix-Up crayons from 1997. Those boxes only had 16 total crayons. 8 new crayons were added to this new box. 8 of them are included in the 168 crayon tub featuring Colors of the World and 120 specialty count box. (I will put those up soon)

What's Inside the box

This crayon box contains 24 crayons. They contain tiny bubbles of color bursts in each crayon, basically 3 crayons in one.  Here are the swatches. All the colors were super vibrant. There is an error on this swatch chart. red white blue is supposed to be fourth of july.

What Did I Think?

My first thought was there are a lot of white crayons! I did test a box of Andy Warhol crayons that had like 5 white crayons one time and was super disappointed. But the Confetti white crayons are not really white. They are colorful. It is like a mystery to know what color is going to lay down. It is an amazing surprise. I like the wrapper color, but I do not like the silver text. It is super hard to read. I am all about easy to read wrappers. I like black text personally. That way I can always read it. I would definitely recommend these crayons. They will provide an amazing color experience. I love coloring with tri-color art supplies. I colored with some tri-color colored pencils and they were amazing.

This is a great box to collect. It may be around a long time, it may be around a short time, but it is a great piece of Crayola history.

Crayola Discovery Limited Edition Crayons

In the year 1997 Crayola came out with the Crayola Discovery Limited Edition crayons. The crayons had six themes:

• No. 1 North American Wild Animals 
• No. 2 Ocean Dive
• No. 3 Space Walk 
• No. 4 Jungle Safari 
• No. 5 Desert Oasis
• No. 6 Bugs 

The crayons came in crayon boxes and then were put in tins. This smashed the flap of the crayon boxes. Some of the crayon tins, the space walk and the ocean boxes contained new crayon names. The others did not. Both of these tins also contained collector cards and fun activities, the others did not. The ocean boxes and the space walk boxes also contained a crayon box called Discovery Limited Edition crayons. I do not know why only these boxes got new crayons names, collector cards and special boxes. The Jungle and Desert boxes contained themed crayons. The North American and Bugs contained select crayons.
