Was the Egg Mazing Worth It?
What's In the Box
The Egg Mazing comes with 8 markers that can draw on eggs and one Egg Decorator Device that spins eggs.
How Does It Work?
The Egg Mazing is a pretty easy concept. The egg is placed in the middle and the device is turned on. The device spins the egg. Once the egg is spinning the markers are used to draw patterns and lines on the eggs. There are so many possibilities of how to use it.
Here are the eggs I decorated with the Egg Mazing. I would love to try it again next year and have it hopefully work this time!
What do the AP and CL Symbols Mean on the Back of Art Supply Boxes?
If you do not read anything after this do not buy any art supplies for kids without an AP symbol on the back or bottom of the box. This shows that the art supply conforms with ASTM D-4236 and is safe for kids. If you want to know why read on...

In my former life I worked as an engineer. During my time at college I worked in a carbon fiber lab making lots of different designs with the carbon fiber and resins. Sometimes the resins were incorporated into the carbon fiber and sometimes they were separate and needed to be incorporated together. We also had many other chemicals. While working at this lab I became concerned with the chemicals that surrounded us every day and wondered if they had any harmful effects. At that time the industry had Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). I made it my mission to find all these sheets and put them in a binder for reference for every chemical we had in the lab. Now they are called SDS sheets (Safety Data Sheets).
How does this relate to art supplies? Art supplies are made with chemicals and some of those chemicals can be toxics to human beings. The Art and Creative Materials Institute was formed in the 1950's to help keep children's art materials safe. Before this there was no indication on any box on the safety of the material. In 1982 the program expanded to include adult supplies and to include new different seals.

These seals are based on ASTM D-4236. This document contains information on using precautionary labels on art materials that contain hazardous materials. It was made a law in 1988, Label of Hazardous Art Materials Act and has become the standard. Every box or product of art materials is labeled with a symbol and that it conforms to ASTM D-4326.
AP Symbol
The AP, Approved Product Seal indicates that the art material is safe for kids to use. It does not contain materials that are toxic.
CL Symbol
The CL, Cautionary Label identifies products that have health risks when used. It can not appear on kids materials.

This box contains both seals due to the metal in the metallic pencils.
I had seen these labels on many products because I often take pictures of the back and front of art supply boxes, but had no idea what they meant. I was talking to Holbein at Creativation/Art Materials World and they told me about it. I was so grateful.
What will I change after learning this? I have many older crayon supplies and wonder what these contain. They will stay in their boxes and I should even use gloves when handling and possibly a mask. Also I will not buy my kids anything that does not contain an AP symbol on the back or bottom of the box. I hurriedly bought my daughter some Mondo Llama, the new Target brand of art supplies at Easter and noticed it does not have this symbol on the back. No more of this art supply for my daughter. Also many budget and dollar art supplies do not have this symbol. I have been throwing out those crayons since asbestos were found in some Dollar Tree and Playskool crayons and now will not buy anything without the symbol. Crayola products did not have asbestos in their crayons or BTEX Chemicals in markers. Another reason I love them.
Make sure to look for these symbols!
3 Earth Day Activities for Preschoolers and Elementary Kids
Earth Day is quickly approaching and I have 3 activities to do with preschoolers and elementary kids. Earth Day is a great day for kids to learn about the Earth. Earth Day began in 1970 to educate people about the dangers of a polluted environment. Senatory Gaylor Nelson and Denis Hayes organized the first Earth Day. It was a day where many groups were able to unite. It paved the way for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety Heath Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Air Act, and many more. In 1990 Earth Day went global.

The first activity is cuddling with this Sammy the Seal Shore Buddy and reading the Shore Buddies book. Shore Buddies are stuffed animals made from recycled plastic bottles. The bottles are shredded into plastic flakes. Some are used for the stuffing, some to make yarn for the outside. One dollar from every purchase goes to help save Marine Life.
The next activity is to make a landscape drawing with crayons and markers. My daughter has a special technique to draw a tree with paint brush markers.

The last activity is a scavenger hunt all about recycling. This could be done outside, in the house, or over zoom. Click here to have this delivered to your inbox.

I hope these activities help you have a great Earth Day!

3 Last Minute Valentine Preschool Crafts In One
For the first activity we took Crayola model magic and turned the Perler bead board over and made a heart on the back.
For the second activity we took the Perler bead board and used it as a stencil to draw out some hearts and cut them out. I drew two on one side and folded it in half to make four hearts. This would be great cutting practice for kids.
Next we got some stickers from Target and put the stickers on the shapes we cut out.
The last project we made was a heart Perler bead design.

I've teamed up with some other bloggers that are also sharing last minute valentine ideas. Check them out!

Fast and Fun Family Game Night with Pop-Tarts Game
Some of my favorite games are games that relate to pop culture and Kellog's pop-tarts Game from Funko does just that. It makes me wish I had a pop-tart when I play it. It is a great game to play with kids because they have to count their points (math) and use strategy to get bonus cards.
This game was gifted for review. This blog post contains affiliate links.
This is the set up for the pop-tarts game. It can be played 2-6 people at a time. Every player gets a toaster and freezer plate to place pop-tarts on. On players turns they take one card on the side the arrow is pointing. For example in the layout below the chocolate 2 would be taken and placed in the freezer section of the players plate. The three cards closest move toward the freezer and once card is placed in the middle to replace the card that was taken.
Bonus cards can be added to a players hand. These cards give the players more points when they can complete the bonus card.
Players can play action card to change the direction of the pop-tarts (where the pop-tart card is taken from) and other actions.
This is an example of a bonus card being completed. The first person to reach 30 points wins.
My daughter and I had a lot of fun playing this game. It was easy enough to understand, and it required a little more than luck to play the game. Games that are just luck drive us crazy. I would highly recommend this game to those that have children and are looking for a fun game. Find this game on Amazon.
