My closest friends and coworkers were perplexed as to why I thought this was exciting news. Crayola was retiring a mystery color. All we knew was that the color would come out of their iconic 24 pack of crayons. This is the first time they have done that in 100 years. Tell me, how is this not exciting?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cimg border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-I2I8uISTE5U\/WRn3PL753HI\/AAAAAAAAALI\/_XgVumcAF6oGoPAZboVqB2bqx1QYsTwCACK4B\/s1600\/image5.JPG\" width=\"100%\" \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nIn general, most people are bewildered when I tell them about my love for Crayola. My interest goes beyond simple brand loyalty. I love trying new Crayola products, and finding old nostalgic Crayola products. I love Crayola’s packaging design, logo, and characters. I collect, not really for resale value, but because Crayola makes me happy. \u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nI paint and sell canvas shoes on Etsy and I’m currently working on expanding my shop to tote bags and zipper pouches as well. I have my Crayola collection on display in my home. Crayola has been a constant inspiration to me as an artist.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cimg border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-cg6rUO_eO1E\/WRn3O8G-vYI\/AAAAAAAAAK8\/56Gl2xZ6IKYxdu4mWbgktxGsqP1auO90ACK4B\/s1600\/image6.JPG\" width=\"100%\" \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nOne of my favorite things to collect are the Crayola crayon boxes. Whenever I see a new box, I have to have it. That’s just what happened at my local Target one normal Wednesday \u0026nbsp;afternoon. The buzz about the mystery crayon was still in the air. I visited the Crayola section like I do every time I go into any store, and I found a box I had never seen before. The sides of the box revealed that Dandelion would be retiring.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nOnce the word was out in the media about Dandelion’s retirement, Crayola advertised Dan D.’s retirement tour. I did some sidewalk chalk art and posted it on Instagram, hoping to encourage Dan D. to stop by the Washington DC area. Later, as I researched more about the tour, I realized that one of Dandelion’s last stops would be at the Crayola Experience in Easton, PA, which is only 3-4 hours away. The date fell so perfectly on the second day of my vacation. I had to go!\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cimg border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-apf54zbZ9ns\/WRn3PC5fWtI\/AAAAAAAAALM\/UN794D0ok7sUkMvaRujCsvPZmwkaJad-gCK4B\/s1600\/image1.JPG\" width=\"100%\" \/\u003E\nI had no idea what time to stop by in order to catch a glimpse of Dan D., so I just had to take my chances. If nothing else, I would at least be able to spend the day at my happy place!\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nI coordinated my outfit for this day. I wanted to show them how big of a fan I am. I worked hard to paint a brand new pair of Crayola shoes for this occasion. I wore a Crayola cardigan on top of a Crayola t-shirt. I had on crayon earrings and Crayola socks. I even had some Crayola lip gloss in my purse!\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nWe bought our tickets, turned to the right to enter the museum and there he was! Dan D! Escorted by none other than representatives from the Crayola corporate office, the very same people who sent me the thank you gifts earlier that month! What are the odds? I was so nervous, but they were all very welcoming to me and easy to talk to. When I let them know who I was one of them immediately hugged me. She said I was a hero at their corporate office and that I made their whole year. Hearing this, made my entire life! It was wonderful to meet them. I got my pictures with Dan D and the wonderful ladies escorting him. They took photos of me as well. \u0026nbsp;Mission accomplished. Now all I had to do was enjoy my time at the museum!\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nI had only been to the Crayola Experience one other time, back in 2012. A lot has changed since then. They added more exhibits and new activities. My favorite things to do (other than take endless pictures) were the melted crayon spin art, and the stations where you can wrap your own crayons with custom names. I wrapped a dandelion crayon with my first name, and then a sky blue crayon with my Instagram handle. The next day on National Crayon Day 3\/31\/2017 they announced the new color would be \"part of the blue family\".\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nThe color of this blue color was announced on May 5, 2017. The new pigment was discovered at Oregon State University.\u0026nbsp; It was originally called called \"YInMn\" blue. The color is comprised of Yttrium, Indium, Manganese and Oxygen, discovered by Mas Subramanian, a chemist student at Oregon State University.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nTo help name this color Crayola enlisted the help of their fans. Crayola has enlisted fans to help name the crayon colors starting\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.jennyscrayoncollection.com\/2015\/07\/96-limited-edition-name-new-colors.html\"\u003Ewith the 1992 \"Name the New Colors\" contest where 16 crayons were retired and 16 named in the 96 Big Box of Crayons\u003C\/a\u003E. Other times Crayola has asked for fans to name colors include:\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.jennyscrayoncollection.com\/2017\/01\/crayola-true-blue-heroes-crayons.html\"\u003Ethe 1997 Search for True Blue Heroes where 9 crayons were named\u003C\/a\u003E,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.jennyscrayoncollection.com\/2015\/07\/crayola-special-edition-100-crayons.html\"\u003Ethe 2002 \"Save the Shade Contest\" where 4 crayons were retired and 4 were named\u003C\/a\u003E,\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.jennyscrayoncollection.com\/2015\/06\/whats-in-box-state-crayon-collection.html\"\u003E\u0026nbsp;the 2003 \"State Your Color\" contest were an entire box of 64 crayons were named after states\u003C\/a\u003E, and the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/www.jennyscrayoncollection.com\/2015\/05\/facebook-limited-edition-gold-medal.html\"\u003Ethe 2013 \"Colorful Nickname Contest\" where fans named 8 classic crayons on Facebook\u003C\/a\u003E. The crayon colors from the \"Name the New Colors\" and the \"Save the Shade\" were the only ones that continued being used after the contest was over.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nColor suggestions were open to US and Canada residents from May 5 to June 2. Over 90,000 unique names were submitted for this new blue color.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nCrayola narrowed it down to five choices announcing the finalist names July 1:\u003Cspan style=\"font-size: large;\"\u003E\u003Cb\u003E\u0026nbsp;Blue Moon Bliss, Bluetiful, Dreams Come Blue, Reach For the Stars, Star Spangled Blue\u003C\/b\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E. Over 400,000 US fans ages 13 and up voted from July 1, 2017 to August 31, 2017 for the final color. A giant bluetiful crayon 16 feet long and 1,352 pounds is currently on display at Crayola Experience, Orlando.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nCrayola has added bluetiful to its line of Tip characters. The character is nicknamed \"Bea\". Her \"nose is always in her laptop.
