36 Polychromos Faber-Castell Colour Pencils

I am super excited to share the 36 Polychromos Colour Pencil box today. This box contains a super pretty color palette and is much more affordable than the bigger 120 count box. It comes in a pretty tin much like the larger tin with a removable pencil tray. The colors are all named and numbered with individual barcodes on the pencil. On the back there is a swatch chart and characteristics of the pencils.

Crayola 144 Sidewalk Chalk

I was so super excited to see the 144 count sidewalk chalk at Target and was super excited to see what was inside. I have the 48 and 64 count boxes. I opened this on a YouTube video and to say I was disappointed was an understatement. It just contained 4 boxes of 36 count chalk. Why not just put a bunch of 36 count boxes on the shelves and have the long spaces devoted to the 64 count chalk box that contains more unique colors and a cool box design?

If a parent knew it just contained 36 count boxes beforehand it would not be as big of disappointment. We will be using it. I will have the kids draw so much this summer and probably give them one box at a time until it is demolished as sidewalk chalk usually goes.

Here are the 36 colors that come in the box 4 times.

Complete List of Current Crayola Colored Pencil Colors

Crayola started making colored pencils in 1988, not nearly as long as they have made crayons. Over the course of this time they have made 12 count, 24 count, 36 count, 50 count, 64 count 72 count and finally 100 count boxes. They have made an 8 count Metallic and 8 count Neon or Extreme box also. Some of these colors, but not all have been incorporated into the higher count box sizes.

Crayola also came out with a box of colored pencils called Color Escapes. This pallet was slightly different than the standard colors used in their other boxes. Most noticeable is the color Jade. It is truer to the actual color. Most of the colors are more vibrant in this box. There is the exception with a bunch of peach and apricot colors. I do not know if they were just trying to get to 72, but the colors are very similar and not needed.

Click here to get swatch charts for all the Crayola Colored Pencils.

Here are all the colors charts for the different box sizes. This first chart includes the color name, hex and RGB values for every colored pencil color ever made by Crayola in their standard box (not the 72 Escapes).

No. 836 Crayola Crayons Gold Medal-36 count: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola No. 836 Gold Medal crayon box was made in the 1950's through the 1960's. It came in a few variations. One had an Elf on the top of the box holding a crayon, the other had text on the front of the box with the dimensions of the crayon listed, 3 5/8" x 5/16". The Elf could have been an early variation of Crayola's character Tip which has been really popular in the 2010's. The Elf box contains the words School crayons on the front while the text box does not. The crayon contained 36 crayons of the same color. It came in 6 colors. Unfortunately when I bought these boxes I did not read the eBay description properly and the original crayons were not in the box. But it is still cool to have these boxes. The boxes did not come in the tuck box design, but with a lid.

Crayola 36 Count Yellow Vintage Crayon Box: What's Inside the Box

Crayola made the Gold Medal Crayon 36 count box somewhere in the 1940's. It was filled with 36 sticks of the same color. On the front of the box they specified that it was "for every day use" and also "School crayons". I think this was to advertise to both market segments, parents and educators. Crayola still specified they were a company at this time on the front of the box. The front of the box was actually a side. The box was made with a lid instead of the common tuck box. This would make it easier for kids to grab one at school. This box was a precursor to the No. 836 box.

Crayola Blenders and Basics Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

I think my mom got me the Crayola Blenders and Basics colored pencils, but I can not remember.  I absolutely loved these pencils when I was younger and still do. They are my go to pencils for shading. There are 36 colors and 24 pencils, 12 of them are double sided.  The blender colors include a light  color on one side and dark color on the other.  Crayola recently came out with the aged up dual ended colored pencils, those ones are not light and dark, but rather contrasting colors.  The blender pencils can be used to achieve a multitude of shading.  Crayola also put helpful blending techniques on the back of the boxes.
