How to Create a Habit Tracker in a Bullet Journal

New Years has come and gone and with that 2023 is officially here! This year I made four habit trackers to practice my habits in my bullet journal. A bullet journal is a personal space to really do anything, take notes, make calendars, track habits etc...Habit Trackers are especially useful for habits to work on that are not a habit at the moment. I did not make a habit tracker to things I do well already because I do not need help with those, but for things I wish I did better or things I need accountability for.

This blog post contains affiliate links.

The first step to creating a habit tracker is to pick a bullet journal, make the lines, labels, put in the months. For some of my habits I am tracking I am only doing them on certain days. I blacked out the days I am not tracking my habit.

The next step is to select a color palette. Tracking habits can either be in one color or in different colors. I chose a rainbow palette with Zebra mildliners.

Here are my other supplies I used. I used a Sharpie pen for the lines, an Ivory Posca pen for mistakes and a Tombow Fudenosuke for labels.

Here are my four trackers. I changed my second tracker to be a little different. I did rainbow at the bottom. I think next time I would extend the colors up for days that do not exist, so I do not confuse those with actual days that are just black out.

Yes both habit trackers are different, but that is the point of a bullet journal. Practice till perfect and make it functional and cute for personal use. No one else has to see. I like the second one better for the most part, but I like the black out dates better on the first.

What habits are you tracking this year?

5 New Neutral Zebra Mildliner Colors

In December I did a Tik Tok where I made "art supply predictions". One of the predictions was that we would get more Mildliner colors! And guess what, we did! I am so excited to share these with you today. The new Zebra Mildliner set for 2022 is the Neutral set with cream, beige, copper, olive, and cool gray. The Mildliners will now be available in 30 different colors with 6 different color palette sets. Mildliners are greate for bullet journaling, planning, studying and highlighting and coloring. They do not bleed through most paper, which I love! These colors come in the Chisel and bullet tip.

I could not find these to buy them online, but contacted Zebra and was able to get a set in exchange for a review.

The soonest I see these available is in April of this year on Blick. They can be preordered. They should be available on Amazon, Michaels, Target and Joann Fabric Stores too.

I used these markers to practice writing the months of the year.

Here is the case for the markers.

The best thing about Mildliners is the name is on the Marker! And there is a barcode for each marker. I recently replaced my Yellow, my favorite highlighter color, because it was gone.

Here is the back of the box. The product number is 78605 and UPC is 045888786059. They are made and packaged in Mexico.

32 Paper Mate Flair Pens

What is one of the most annoying things about colored art supplies? It is when they do not have names on the art supply. For one it makes it hard to know how many colors are truly available and two it makes it hard to be able to use a certain color especially when the caps do not match.

There are color names even if they are not on the cap and I found them. I was able to label all my supplies and now I will never wonder. These supplies come from the standard post, candy pop and tropical colors. I will post those boxes soon and the colors in them also. These pens are 0.7mm size, the medium size. The flair pens come in 0.4mm, 0.7mm and 1.2mm.

32 Paper Mate Flair Pen Colors

There are 32 total flair pen colors. Here are all the colors labeled. The 32 Paper Mate Flair Pens color names are: plum, raspberry fizz, orchid lei, strawberry, magenta, pink, cranberry, red, papaya, guava, tangerine, marigold, salted caramel, yellow, olive, green, lime, gummy green, surf's up, sky blue, scuba dive, blueberry bubble gum, navy, blue, lilac, grape gum, passion fruit, black, slate, pumpkin, and mocha.

11 Reasons to Use a Bullet Journal

Why Bullet Journal? That is the question. What I did not realize is that I have bullet journaling for most of my life. I love making lists and I love being organized. It was not until last year when I got a bunch of bullet journal supplies and I officially bought my first dot notebook that I realized how pretty it could be.

What is bullet journaling? Bullet Journaling is having a place to brain dump and make thoughts organized and pretty. Bullet Journaling can include; calendars, to do lists, goals, daily inspiration, daily trackers and much more. The bullet journal can be simple or it can be covered in art.

This blog post contains affiliate links.

Now to answer the question why bullet journal, here are my reasons why. Here is a video or the written list.

11 Reasons to Bullet Journal

1. Better alternative to being on phone
I switched to a paper planer a few years ago because I did not want to be on my phone as much. When I get on the phone I forget why I get on. Then 30 minutes later I vaguely remember why. It is so easy to get distracted on the phone. When I pick up the paper planner I know exactly why I am opening the paper planner.

2. Remember stuff because it is written down
Writing things down can help people remember things. I certainly remember more when I write it down.

3. It is unique-can be anything
I touched on it a little at the beginning, but a bullet journal can be unique. It can be anything the author wants it to be, there is no right or wrong way to bullet journal. People can make calendars, trackers and lists or none of those things. It can be anything that will help someone stay organized or have a place for their thoughts.

4. Good place for a brain dump
I have insomnia plain and simple. My doctor told me I needed to write down my thoughts before bed. Having a bullet journal is perfect. I can list all the things I need to worry about and then not have to worry about forgetting them when I need to remember them. I can go to sleep and think about other things and not stay up half the night worrying.

5. Helps with organization
As I have bullet journaled more and more last year I have found myself making the same lists over and over. I have found what works for me when using a bullet journal. In my bullet journal I know where to go to look for specific lists. It helps me stay so organized. Here is my monthly bills section and when it is paid with the amount. I also have my payoff goals and 2022 expenses. I did not fill them in for privacy reasons, but have them filled in another planner.

6. Doesn’t have to be perfect just perfect for you
Bullet journals do not have to be perfect, mine certainly is not. It is littered with mistakes. But guess what no one has to see my bullet journal unless I show them. And there are ways to cover up mistakes or leave them be by crossing them off.

7. Lists and calendars for anything
There are endless possibilities for the types of lists and calendars that can go in a bullet journal and no special programs or computer formats needed to run them. I have lists for renovation projects, what I need to buy in a year, grocery lists, cleaning lists etc. I have calendars for birthdays, a general calendar, monthly calendars and daily calendars.

8. Inspires creativity
A bullet journal inspires creativity. I know it has for me. It can be simple and plain or super arty and fancy. It can be colorful or monochrome. It can change based on the seasons. The possibilities are endless.

9. Helps with goals
Bullet journals can help with goals. When a goal is written down and looked at it is easier to achieve. I also have daily trackers to help achieve my goals. Here are my big goals and a daily tracker to achieve my big goals.

10. Easy to flip through
A bullet journal is super easy to flip through and is always on. The wifi never runs out. It is easy to look back at past lists and see what needs to still happen or look at goals, reference sheets etc.

11. Good place to remember things
The last reason, but there are still more, let me know in the comments why you keep a bullet journal is that it is a good place to remember things. I can look at past journals and see what I did that year or how far I have come. I can remember what I did.

I hope these reasons help in your bullet journal journey. It is never too late to start! Here are some good resource for supplies to help get started.

Sharpie 36 S-Note Creative Marker

Earlier this year 2021 I wrote a post about the 24 S-Note Markers from Sharpie. At that time I knew there were 12 new colors coming, but it was not out yet. It is finally out and I am so happy that I got my hands on a box. I found mine on Amazon. They may be available other places later. What is so special about these new colors? The new colors are a lot lighter than the previous colors. That was one of the biggest criticism I saw of the other set of markers. Now there is a super broad palette of markers.

60 Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens

My husband told me the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Porous Pens are some of the best fineliners out on the market right now. He had a box of 12 but I wanted to try all the colors. There is a really pretty assortment of color in this box. The fineliners are 0.3 mm. They can be used for general writing, bullet journaling, sketches, and artwork. One of the coolest things about Staedtler fineliners is they can be left out without the cap and not dry out. They are water based and in theory could blend with one another.

Crayola Clicks Retractable Markers 10 Count

I was looking for a certain Sharpie color at Walmart when I happened across the Crayola Clicks retractable markers. I knew that I immediately needed them. My daughter is in the phase where she LOVES markers, but she is always taking the caps off and leaving them everywhere, drying the markers out. I knew that she would love these markers. I got them out and showed them how to work them, and guess what? She is now closing here markers! She calls them her markers, and let me take some pictures of them.

Click here to find at Walmart. The paper I used is Hahnemuhle Nostalgie white paper and DCWV cardstock. Click here to find the paper I used on Blick.

They are mostly thin tip, but pressure can be applied to make them a little thicker. I was also able to do some blending with them as seen here. I also love this dot technique to add a background to the word!

Here are all the colors. I love the names, simple names that stated what the color was. The black was not super black, but the color palette was vibrant and we love them! There are no caps to lose and the marker stays fresh inside the barrel.

Sharpie 24 S-Note Creative Marker

If you have followed me at all you know that I love Sharpie markers. Sharpie has been making their markers for a number of years and have branched out from the alcohol marker line over the years. This branch off is the Sharpie S-Note Creative Marker. What does it compare to? It can be compared to Zebra Mildliner and Crayola Super Tips.

I heard about these at Creativation/Art Marterials World this year and had to pick them up! They are so pretty. I also have the Mildliners and did the swatch charts at the same time. If I was going to get one I would get the Mildliners because I felt the ink came out a little easier, aka not as dry as the S-Note, but these colors are super pretty.

Click here to find the markers on Blick.   The paper I used is Hahnemuhle Nostalgie white paper and DCWV cardstock. Click here to find the paper I used on Blick.

Another advantage to the Mildliners over the Sharpie S-Notes are the Mildliners have the color names on them. There are names for the S-Notes. I found them by going on Sharpie.com and clicking on all the S-Note colors. I was able to match up all the names and now there is a chart here for reference. The Mildliner has two tips, the Sharpie S-Note has one, but honestly this was not a deal breaker for me because both are chisel tip and it is super easy to write thin lines by turning the marker point. The Mildliners also have one more color.

The colors for the Sharpie S-Note creative markers are: gray, light gray, plum, raspberry, orchid, brick red, guava, papaya, cinnamon, mango, honey, salted caramel, lemonade, olive, pear, limeade, sea green, jade, surf's up, scuba blue, perwinkle, indigo, lavender, and grape.

Post It Noted Pen Review

Post It usually just makes paper products or so I thought...It turns out they make some pens too. Target and Post It collaborated for a new line called Noted in 2021. It included lots of different planning stationary, stickers and these pens. I honestly have no idea how long the line will be around. It was already being clearanced out last time I was in the store. It could be one of those things that last for a long time or lasts for years. Who knows? Here are all the pens that came in the line.

The really annoying thing was I had to purchase all of these separately. They were each 5.99 for 3 pens. That is thirty dollars for the whole set. Is the whole set worth 30 dollars? No I say. The pens are good, but not 30 dollars good. That is about two dollars a pen. I would pay one dollar a pen maybe. The quality was good on normal paper, but on the Noted paper the quality is actually sub par. It does not lay down as well and is not as vibrant. I will update this post with some swatches eventually, but for now take my word.

I will say I really do love to use these in my Kate Spade planner. There is no bleed through and the colors are vibrant on that paper.

I am glad I was able to get all the colors, because they are so pretty. But I have to digress and say why I would not pay that much again. Another reason I do not think the pens are worth 2 dollars a piece is they are pretty short, ie not as much ink and they will not last as long. It also does not grip the same as a regular pen.  They are pretty colors however and if I was buying them I would buy them all.

What's inside the box: Colors are not named, why not??? The box names are called; red, pink, green, blue and gray. The colors in the boxes are all variations of those colors.
