If you are like me, your kids love Disney animated movies. When my kids started getting old enough to watch them I was disappointed by how few of them I could find in stores and on streaming services especially the princess movies. It seems like the only way to make sure my kids can watch these movies is to purchase them myself. And with Disney keeping their movies in a "vault" it is hard to know what movies I already have when I am staring at them in the store or searching Amazon. I put together this list to keep track of all the movies that we have, and what type we have. I added Blue-ray and Digital HD, because it is nice to know if you can put it on your phone or tablet. Also if friends want to borrow a movie and they only have a certain player it is easy to know. One day I would love to turn this into an app. But I tried making apps once and realized I need an apple computer to do so, so until then here is the next best thing. You can print it out and keep it in your purse. Here is the printable version.

Disney Anywhere
Disney has a really cool feature for their Digital HD versions of movies. It is called Disney Anywhere. At first I was annoyed because I had to enter the Digital HD code to Disney Anywhere and not iTunes, but then once I played around with it, I realized it was really powerful. It connects all your accounts and will download the movies automatically to these accounts. It shares the movies to iTunes, Amazon Video, VUDU, Google Play, Microsoft, Fios by Verizon. I can download them to my phone, which is an iPhone and to my Kindle that is Amazon Video. If I just buy a regular movie on iTunes or Amazon Video it is not available on all platforms. This is super helpful with kids because you never know how they are going to watch the movie.

Warning and Tip
Also I want to issue a warning and tip when buying Disney movies. If you want a Digital HD version, read the box carefully, not all copies of movies come with and HD version. I do not know why, it seems like it would be a give in now. I went to buy Cars or my boy and the Digital HD version was sooo much money.

Next is the tip. If you want to buy movies that have more than one video in the series, such as Cinderella, Cars, Planes, Toy Story and you have a Blue-ray player, look on Amazon or other sites. They can be a lot cheaper coming from other countries and usually come in a pack. I do not know why they do not sell these packs in the US. Many of the foreign versions of the film are compatible with Blue-ray players in the US. On the back of the box there will be hexagons with one or all of ABC's in there. If the video has all of these on the back you are good to go.

Moana Movie and Soundtrack Review

Move over Frozen, Moana is here!

Moana Movie

We took our family to see Disney's Moana over Christmas break. What we discovered was an amazing tale of Moana of Motunui, a young girl who is destined to be chief of her island, but longs to for the sea. Her struggle is fueled on both sides of her family. Her father wants her to be content on the island and is afraid of the sea. Her grandmother loves the sea and encourages her to follow her heart showing Moana their tribe used to be voyagers. The struggle hits a turning point when her grandmother passes away and tells Moana to go return the heart of the ocean. The heart of the ocean was stolen by Maui a demigod. When the heart was stolen from Te Fiti, the goddess who life in the ocean a darkness spread across the ocean. The only to stop it is to return the heart.

In the days that follow Moana shows strength by finding Maui, helping him restore his confidence, learning to sail, and eventually finding Te Fiti's heart herself. She struggles along the way, but eventually overcomes these struggles and confronts the great Te Kā to return the heart.

Why did we love this movie? One we loved the story. It is one of the first Disney movies targeted at girls that does not feature a love story. It is genius. Kids do not need to worry about love, but need to learn about finding their purpose in life. It is very similar to Big Hero 6 which also does not feature a love story. I hope more movies come along that feature the main character finding their purpose in life. Brave attempted to do this, but the story was about how she did not need love to be happy which is an abstract concept for a young child. I love that Moana was not about not finding or wanting love, but about finding herself. This is a great movie for kids and adults.

I would however not getting the Target Exclusive movie. I thought it featured a removable book, but the book is part of the Blue-Ray case and the case is not able to close. I would suggest getting the standard Blue-Ray or DVD and a separate book.

Moana Soundtrack
Another reason we loved this movie was because of the music. The soundtrack features 40 tracks, 14 with words and 24 with the original score. My daughter was wanting to sing this Moana all the day so for Easter we bought her the soundtrack. Needless to say it replaced Taylor Swift's 1989 album in our car and we listen to it all the time at home. I think she likes it better than Frozen.

My daughter's favorite songs are "How Far I'll Go" and "I Am Moana". My son's favorite songs are "We Know the Way" and "You're Welcome". They both love "Shiny". "Shiny" is the one song that did not fit with the movie in my opinion. It was a tribute to David Bowie, which I get that he passed away in 2016, but he was not Polynesian. It is a fun song to listen to on it's own, but does not fit with the movie. My kids are like the original versions of the "How Far I'll Go" and "You're Welcome". Auli’i Cravalho has an amazing voice and sings great live, see the video below for a live version from Dancing with the Stars. And Dwayne Johnson's personality really fits the "You're Welcome" song and makes it lots of fun. Also I do not know if they like the rapping that is done in the end credits "You're Welcome". I think it is fun and different, my 4 year old however also asks, "Is this the end, can we start again?" at the end credit songs.

If you have young kids and want something new (cough, cough Frozen) to listen to definitely pick up the Moana soundtrack. It is super fun to learn how to sing all the words in the songs and your kids will love it.

Crayola Color Wonder, On The Go Coloring: What's Inside the Box and Review

I was so excited to receive the Crayola Color Wonder On-The-Go coloring sets from Crayola. I was going buy at Target, but held off and the next day I found out we were getting them to review. My kids especially love the PJ Masks and Paw Patrol sets. A couple of years ago my kids started watching the Disney Channel show PJ Masks and there were no toys at all for the show. My kids and I love the show because it has both boys and girls that turn into pajama clad superheroes at night with their magical bracelets. We found some PJ Mask's pajamas for their Halloween costumes and bracelets for Christmas. Now they get to color their favorite superheroes in a REAL coloring book! They are excited. I can not tell you how many "coloring pages" (ones I made from images from the internet before there were books) I printed for them to color for PJ masks. There are also PJ Masks giant coloring pages, coloring books with stickers and activity books.

What's in the box and how does it work?
The Color Wonder Color-On-The Go sets come in 4 themed sets; Paw Patrol, Disney Princess, PJ Masks, and Shimmer and Shine. The sets are very well put together and include 3 themed markers each. All of the markers are interchangeable. How does the Color Wonder work? The marker only colors on the specialized paper, because the paper contains chemicals that react with the marker ink. What is really cool about this set is it has negative space areas which is used to hide fun patterns, outlines of buildings, background objects, and masks on the PJ Masks outfits. Review
What did my kids think? To say they loved them is an understatement. My son carried his, he claimed the Paw Patrol around the house and colored all the pages. He mostly scribbled on them and colored really quickly, but he loved it. My daughter loved the PJ mask one, and has almost colored all the pages in her set. She loved finding the hidden objects in the pictures.

What did I think? I think these are really cool and would be idea for taking to the doctor's office or a long card ride, two things we do often enough. And would be a much better alternative than a screen. I love that the booklets can be opened and closed and there is space for the markers inside. This way the markers will not end up all over the car and the doctor's office. This happens a lot with other marker packages that can not be closed up when they are open. I love that they are mess free and only color on the paper. My son was confused the other day when he was coloring with them and accidentally "colored" on his blanket. I had to reassure him that the blanket was not dirty because the marker did not leave a mark on his blanket.

How could it be even better? I would love refills for these books. My kids colored through the pages pretty quickly. I would also maybe like to see a few more colors per set. They are interchangeable, but my daughter only wanted to use the ones that came in the set.

8 Count Frozen Themed Crayola Crayon Box Set: What's Inside the box

I almost missed the 8 Frozen Themed Crayola box set sold at Target. They came out in 2014 in conjunction with the Disney Junior and Disney box sets. Since that time Finding Dory has had it's own set of themed boxes. I'm so glad I was able to get a hold of these boxes. I was visiting Target often and never saw them. I also missed the Disney Junior set. Luckily fellow collectors had both of these boxes and I was able to get them from them. The Frozen themed boxes feature colors inspired by Elsa, Olaf and Anna. The colors with with each character very well. The box came wrapped in plastic with a cardboard backing. I think they were meant for collecting. I am so happy I found a box to buy!

24 Count Disney Parks Princess Character Figurine Crayons: What's Inside the Box

My husband surprised me with the Disney Princess 24 Crayon Figurines when he went to a conference earlier this year. It was in Anaheim and he picked up these crayons from Disneyland for me. He knows me well. There are Tiana, Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Jasmine, in three different colors. The princesses are on one end of the crayon and the crayon tip on the other. They must have had a special casting process to get the crayon wax just right. The princesses can only be placed in certain spots in the packaging, so if you get them out make sure to put them back in the right spot. We love these crayons. They are so much fun to play and draw with. I would definitely recommend them.

Disney Themed Sidewalk Chalk: What's Inside the Box

I found the 8 count Crayola Disney themed sidewalk chalk first at Target. They only carried the Hulk version of the longest time. I picked up the Captain America chalk at the Crayola Store. It is super crazy that stores do not carry an entire line of a collectible product. I am still missing a marker in the Pip-Scents collection because it was never sold in the United States. I do not know if there are any other 8 count chalk boxes out there.
Sidewalk chalk is an essential outdoor play toy for kids. The chalk is bright and colorful and themed to the different character sets. My kids and the neighbor kids stay engaged for a long time with the chalk.

8 Count Finding Dory Themed Crayola Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I first saw the Finding Dory themed Crayola crayons online this summer. A fellow collector had found them at Michael's. I went to Michael's and found all four boxes and some matching markers. I was super excited! The crayon boxes feature the characters: Hank, Dory, Nemo and Destiny. These are perfect for kiddos, who love the Finding Dory movie. They are a bit more expensive at Michael's than themed boxes would be other places. Make sure to catch them on a sale. I have not found them at other stores yet, that does not mean they will not show up.

Crayola Disney Junior 8 count themed boxes: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola Disney Junior 8 count themed boxes are super cute! They were made in 2014 but were not featured in stores until January 2015. I unfortunately missed the original release of the boxes, and saw them on eBay later. Luckily a collector friend sent me these. I hope to find some more, because my daughter kids absolutely love this series of boxes, much more than the original set, of which I have plenty of extras.

Disney 8 Count Box Collection

This is the Disney 8 count Crayola box crayons. Notice the continuation of pattern on all three boxes, they did a really good job designing these. The Princess Collection features three Disney princesses, Merida, Rapunzel and Ariel. My daughter absolutely loves these ones. She just wishes they had a Cinderella one. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse collection features Donald, Goofy and Mickey. My kids love these ones too. I wish they'd included Minnie in these ones though. The Avengers Assemble boxes feature Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America. My kids love these ones! I did have one boy request a Spiderman box. The other boxes are boxes based on Disney Junior shows.
