8 Count Boxes: Pearl, Glitter and Metallic

8 count boxes have always had a special place for collectors. There have been many standard 8 count boxes over the years and many special type boxes over the years. Crayola introduced Pick Your Pack at Target and later a similar version at Walmart as custom colors in an 8 count box. They have made special 8 count boxes for stores such at Target and Walmart and other companies. They made some special 8 count boxes for the Trolls, Finding Dory, and Minion movies and some special Disney boxes. 8 count boxes are cheaper than other boxes to make and still contain a good amount of colors.

Sometimes Crayola will make a 4 count box or 8 count box to test a certain idea. The public does not usually know why Crayola is coming out with special boxes, but they do a trial run. The glitter crayon special 8 count box came out in 2014. There are also special 8 count boxes for neons and the standard colors, but they are not as prevalent and I have not been able to get my hands on them yet. The glitter box first came out in a set of other art supplies. It then showed up at The Dollar Tree. The Metallic and Pearl crayons came out in 2019 in conjunction sold at Dollar Tree with the release of 24 count Metallic, Pearl, Glitter and Neon crayons. Those boxes are different colors, but the same font as these boxes. I like the colors of these boxes. I have a soft spot for 8 count themed boxes. I would love to get my hands on the neon and standard colors boxes from this line.

Crayola Signature Liquid Metal Craft Markers

Crayola Signature is one of my favorite lines from Crayola. This box of Liquid Metal Craft Markers is no exception. I love all the shimmery colors, copper, rose gold, bronze, gold, titanium, and silver. They are very similar to the glitter markers from Crayola, but in metallic colors. These markers can be used on fabric, wood, canvas and Terra Cotta.  I have also posted about other Signature products from 2017 here and new products available in 2019 here along with items I have colored and painted with them.

Crayola Bulk Gold and Silver Crayons

Before Crayola came out with Metallic Effects crayons they sold the Metallic Effect box which was two of each gold, silver, and copper in a box. In 1995 Crayola put gold and silver in bulk crayon boxes. They still do this today, but they are not in these cool boxes. The boxes are different from the regular boxes in they are white with a dark green border.

96 Count Crayola Crayons

The 96 count Crayola box of crayons is ideal for kids and adult to color with. I love the number of crayons inside the box. It gives a great variety of colors. It comes with 6 sleeves of crayons and many of the standard Crayola crayons. This box is a little different than most because it contains some gel fx and metallic crayons. I will post some more boxes that will have the standard crayons in the box. Check out the crayons that come in the 64 crayon box and 120 crayon box.

2019 NEW Crayola COLORS Review and 24 Crayons

2019 was a very exciting year for Crayola crayons because of the Glitter, Metallic, Neon and Pearl 24 count boxes. The boxes included new color names, 72 to be exact.  It is interesting this release did not get much publicity because it is probably THE MOST EXCITING art supply Crayola released in 2019.

Metallic Effects Crayola Crayons

Crayola made it's first box of metallic crayons in the 80's. In the US they released a box of 8 containing gold, silver and copper. In Canada they released a test box with new metallic colors in it.

I bought the Metallic Effect crayons off of eBay when I picked up some more GemTones and Silver Swirls.  I was a little disappointed when it came and it only contained silver, gold and bronze.  It seemed a little silly to me, but I am glad to have the box, because it is one of the first times that Crayola decided to use the name Metallic, even if they were not new crayons.

16 Count Holiday Crayola Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Crayola came out with a whole holiday set of products in the late 90's early 2000's. I have the holiday markers, but I do not have the 8 count glitter crayons. This 16 count Crayola Holiday crayon box contains 8 standard crayons and 8 metallic crayons. Metallic crayons came out the year before in 2000. They were called the Holiday box because of the inclusion of the metallic crayons, that were slightly glittery. Other than that the colors are pretty standard, not only reds, greens, silvers and golds. The markers only contain reds and greens.

Crayola Star Wars Millennium Falcon Art Kit: What's Inside the Kit

Crayola and Star Wars came out with a bunch of crayons and art sets to welcome the new movie, The Force Awakens.  I picked up everything I could find because I am a major fan of Star Wars, I have been since I was a little girl.  I found this Crayola Millennium Art Kit at Target.  There are a bunch of coloring pages inside and origami directions to make the Millennium Falcon.  I copied it on my printer and made a couple. The pages are very nice also.  I am a little disappointed there were not any from the new movie, but they released the Art Kit before the movie was released so I can see why.  I hope they come out with another or some updated pages because Rey is my favorite!

8 Count Crayola Metallic Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola Metallic Colors colored pencils feature 8 metallic colors. The colors create shimmering effects on the paper. I bought the Crayola Metallic Colors Colored pencils a while ago, I actually do not remember where, but they can still be purchased in stores that sell Crayola products.  Some of these pencils appear in the 100 Colored Pencils pack, but not all of them.

Crayola Metallic FX and Metallic Crayons: What's Inside the Box

In 2000 Crayola introduced the Metallic box and had a contest to name them. That is why the original colors were not named. The contest was open to residents of Canada and the United states. The contest was judged by a panel at Binney & Smith, Inc based on Creativity, Originality and Appropriateness. The winners were awarded with 16 Crayola brand product assortments. Here are the winners for each crayon color. They were announced on the website and not the crayon. Unfortunately I was not able to find all the winners names because not all the pages were archived. Let me know if you know some.
  • blast off bronze (Gregory A. Milton, FL)
  • shimmering blush (Darla C.J. Evington, VA)
  • big dip o'ruby (Audrey B. Auburn, IN)
  • bittersweet shimmer
  • alloy orange
  • metallic sunburst
  • gold fusion (Dale K. Griggsville, IL)
  • sheen green (Amy N.C. Monroe, MI)
  • illuminating emerald (Joanna Masher from Hanover Township, PA)
  • metallic seaweed (Jennifer T. Brentwood, TN)
  • steel blue (Karen T. Fort Wayne, IN)
  • b'dazzled blue
  • cyber grape
  • razzmic berry
  • sonic silver
  • deep space sparkle

A story of  one of the winners Joanna says, "I entered the contest online. I used a thesaurus for words relating to space and colors. Then put the word and color together. Illuminating Emerald was my winner! I received a box of goodies from Crayola and they were in an old Crayola wood crate. It’s awesome to tell everyone I named a Crayola crayon!!"

I have had the Crayola Metallic FX crayons for years.  I like them, but I do not like them as much as I like the Silver Swirls, nothing can ever replace that crayon.  I do not have the original box, but I have two of them.  These crayons can still be found in big boxes of Crayola crayons and some specialty boxes such as the Star Wars crayon boxes.
