50 Twistable Crayola Colored Pencils

I can not believe I do not have this box of twistable colored pencils on here. This box of 50 twistable Colored Pencils came out in 2021. The colors do not match the regular colored pencils. Some of them were a bit tricky to name, but I figured it out. The color palette is super pretty.

Crayola 72 Silly Scents Crayons and Colored Pencils

The other day in our facebook group someone asked about the 72 Silly Scents Crayons and Colored Pencils. I knew I had to get them because there were new colors in the box. I bought them on Amazon. The other day I did a YouTube video showing the colors and the swatches for all the colors. The crayons were easy to match up with the colors on the back of the box, but the colored pencils were really hard. I would have thought I could tell by the smell, but alas, the scents are not very easy to tell apart. They do not "smell" like their color very strongly.

Click here to find this box on Amazon.

Here are all the colors included in the box.

Color Information

Here are all the color names for the Crayola 72 Silly Scents Crayons and Colored Pencils.

  • Crayons: roses, birthday cake, cherry, strawberry, cinnamon, mango, orange, popcorn, peach, flower, banana, pineapple, lime, grass, watermelon, apple, spearmint, pine, bay breeze, blueberry, cola, wild berry, plum, lavender, grape, fruit smoothie, cotton candy, fruit punch, bubble gum, root beer, pumpkin pie, chocolate, licorice, vanilla, coconut, fresh air
  • Colored Pencils: fruit punch, cherry, banana, peach, cinnamon, orange, popcorn, flower, mango, pineapple, lime, grass, spearmint, watermelon, apple, pine, bay breeze, cola, blue berry, grape, wild berry, plum, lavender, fruit smoothie, cotton candy, bubble gum, birthday cake, roses, strawberry, pumpkin pie, chocolate, root beer, licorice, coconut, vanilla, fresh air

Here are the swatches for the crayons and colored pencils. The colors did not match up very well with each other. For example the pine crayon color and pine colored pencils did not match up at all. Some of the crayons did not want to color on the paper either such as the cola. This set was nice, but not as cool at the Magic Scents.

Mr. Sketch vs Crayola Silly Scents Scented Crayons

I have been asked quite a few times whether I like Mr Sketch Scented crayons or Crayola Silly Scents Scented crayons better. The verdict, Mr. Sketch scented crayons are slightly better. For the purposes of this study I looked at the 12 count boxes from each company. I received the Crayola Silly Scents from Crayola for review. I bought the Mr Sketch box.

The samples from each are above. They were basically the same colors, and almost similar scents.

I also  made a YouTube video showing the Mr Sketch vs Crayola Silly Scents showdown.
1. Box Design-Mr Sketch wins the box design award. The box opens like a standard tuck box. It is relatively simple to open. The Crayola Silly Scent box is very hard to open. There is a tab on the box which tears easily when trying to open. The also somewhat opens, but I do not think that was the intended purpose for that design. And do not get me started on the 24 count box. It takes a good five minutes just to get the crayons back in the box.

2. Laydown-Crayola has a slight edge in this category. The crayon laydown is very nice and much like their other crayon products. Mr Sketch goes on thick, but may be more prone to smudges and flaking because it goes on too thick.

3. Color Vibrance-Mr Sketch wins this category. Maybe it is because the laydown is thicker, but the colors are definitely more vibrant.

4. Cost-Mr. Sketch and Crayola tie in this category. The cost is relatively the same depending on where the crayons are purchased.

5. Colors and Scent Availability-Crayola and Mr Sketch tied in this category. There were some colors in Mr Sketch that I loved, like Vanilla, etc...but there were some I liked in the Crayola Silly Scents better. I did not like Stinky cheese from the Mr Sketch or licorice from the Crayola Silly Scents line.

6. Smell-Mr. Sketch won this category. Why? I could smell the scents a lot better. But I must confess that once more than one scent was put down on both papers the scents became a little jumbled.

Overall Mr. Sketch won the best crayon in the Mr. Sketch versus Crayola Silly Scents, but by a narrow margin. I would buy either one and your kids would love them. I can not see where these two companies take their scented crayons.

Best Scented Crayon
Now that I have answered the winner for Mr Sketch vs Crayola Silly Scents, the best scented crayon box goes to Crayola Magic Scents from the 1990's. Why? The laydown was great, the colors were amazing, the box design was simple and the most important reason the smells were very distinct. I could smell every smell as it hit the paper. Whatever Crayola did with those crayons they need to do again. They are hands down the best scented crayon out there.

Crayola Fun Effects! Twistables Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Overview and Review

Crayola has many different Twistable crayon sets. The Crayola Fun Effects! Twistables crayons contain 8 neon crayons, 8 metallic crayons, and 8 rainbow crayons. The rainbow crayons consist of 4 colors. I call them quad color. Crayola has made other multi color art supplies, True to Life Colored Pencils and Tri-Color Markers. The multi color produces a fun effect on the paper which really excites kiddos. The neon and metallic colors are also really fun to color with. I definitely recommend this over the standard Twistables pack.

Crayola Mini Packs: What's Inside the Box

Crayola loves to make promotional packs of their products consisting of 3-4 items. In 2014 they came out with 3 Twistables crayons and 3 Dual Color markers for Walmart. Crayola had made Twistable crayons in the past, but they had never made Dual-Color markers. I have not seen them since. I wonder if it was to test it out to see how the product would do. I hope they make some of them in a big box soon.

2017 Crayola Silly Scents Review: Markers, Twistable Crayons & Colored Pencils, Slim Markers Review: What's Inside the Box

Overview
I am SO excited to review the 2017 Silly Scents line from Crayola. I received these items from Crayola. The Silly Scents line was introduced during back to school in 2017. The lines includes: chisel tips markers, Twistables Crayons, Twistables Colored Pencils and Slim Markers. The scents are mostly food items and outdoor scents. The activity sets (not pictured here) will include eight stinky smells, including Old Shoe and Garlic and eight sweet smells. They will be available at Christmas time. The Silly Scents line is similar to the Doodle Scents line in that it includes faces on the front on pictures of the different scents. There is also a Silly Scents Marker Maker!
Crayola has been making scented art supplies for years now. They started with the Magic Scents line back in 1993. The magic scent line consisted of many of the same colors in the Silly Scents line. The crayons came in 8 and 16 count boxes. The 1993 Magic scents had food items, the 1994 set had non food items in it to prevent kids from eating the crayons. This 2017 Silly Scents line has a bittering agent added to the crayons to discourage consumption. I am so excited Crayola is making scented crayons again!

In 1997 Crayola came out with Color 'n Smell crayons. These were scented non food crayons.

In 2006 and 2007 with a Silly Scents line which included crayons, markers and colored pencils. This silly scents line was very silly. It had gross smells in it, ie alien armpit and ogre odor. This is very different than the current line except for the activity sets which will come out later this year that will include stinky smells.

Crayola has been making scented markers for a while. It had been including them with SuperTips Markers. Over the last couple of years they introduced the Doodle Scents, Pip Scents, Powerlines and Scented Mighty Marks.

Review
What did I think? I loved using all of them. Scented crayons, markers and colored pencils are some of my favorite things. They take me back to when I was young. And they are a hit with all my preschool kids. They always go for the scented markers and crayons. When I opened my package I could definitely smell the scents. I have gotten scented crayons and markers from Crayola before and these were definitely the strongest smelling packaging. I think it is the Twistables that smell. It was a pleasant smell, like opening a box of fruit loops.

The colors were very vibrant and the smells were mostly very strong. It seemed the crayons were not as strong at the colored pencils and markers, but they were still smelly. My kids loved the crayons and we will happily use them and I am sure they will be a favorite. My favorite will probably be the Slim Tip markers and the colored pencils.

27 Count Twistables Crayons with Special Effects Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Teachers rave about the Twistable crayons, but my 6 and 3 year old may still be a little young for them.  They love that the crayons can be twisted whenever kids run out of crayon to color with. I pulled out some twistables and my son has fun pulling out the lead and breaking it.  Teachers really like them because they do not have to be sharpened, they do not have a wrappers and can always be used.  I think we will like them better as my kids get older.  This box includes some special effect crayons.

Top 10 Essential Crayola Back to School Supplies

Back to school is fast approaching. I was so excited when Crayola sent me a box of supplies to review.  I included some of the ones they sent me and added some of my personal favorites. Here is my list of my top ten Crayola back to school items to help you navigate the Crayola aisle at the store. There is an added bonus of the number one teacher item from Crayola.  I was surprised to see what it was. My background is a preschool teacher and a mother of two little ones, a girl age five and son age three.

Crayola Star Wars Millennium Falcon Art Kit: What's Inside the Kit

Crayola and Star Wars came out with a bunch of crayons and art sets to welcome the new movie, The Force Awakens.  I picked up everything I could find because I am a major fan of Star Wars, I have been since I was a little girl.  I found this Crayola Millennium Art Kit at Target.  There are a bunch of coloring pages inside and origami directions to make the Millennium Falcon.  I copied it on my printer and made a couple. The pages are very nice also.  I am a little disappointed there were not any from the new movie, but they released the Art Kit before the movie was released so I can see why.  I hope they come out with another or some updated pages because Rey is my favorite!

Crayola Twistables Colored Pencils with Color Alive: What's Inside the Box

I mostly bought the Crayola Twistables colored pencils this year because of the new color alive inserts in both of them.  I do not normally buy the new boxes of the classic colors because there are so many and I like to focus the storage space I have on the specialty sets, but this year I was excited to get Color Alive coloring book sheets. I do wish I had more of the classic colors, or at least their style and code numbers, to better tell the story of Crayola.  I plan on putting all the ones I have online in the near future. I plan on using them with my kiddos, making a copy of it and having them color it over and over.

I love the new box design for the Twistables, they were in a plastic packaging before, but they have changed to the standard colored pencils packaging.  I like the colors and swirl design on the twistables, the colored pencils are black.  What I do not like is that they do not have the color names on them anymore :( I really like color names to be on the writing instrument. It appears to be the first year this particular 18 count box is being sold (I think it was the addition of the fluorescent colors), and for the 30 count box, it appears there are at least 12 other prior boxes.

10 Count Crayola Twistables Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I bought the 2015 Crayola Twistables crayons for one reason, the color alive bonus.  I typically do not buy products I already own even if their is a different version of them.  For example, the 24 count and 8 count boxes, I do not buy the new one every year.  Not that I do not like them, but I really like collecting the specialty boxes.  If I had all the room in the world for my collection I would buy them, I am just selective so it does not explode. I wanted to get one of each of the specialty Color Alive pictures Crayola is putting out this year.  These special pages feature Tip on them doing different activities.  I love Tip, it was a great move for Crayola to start marketing him more.

I love everything about this box design.  It is in a box and easy to open.  The only thing I am not in love with this set of Twistables is that they have stopped putting the crayon name on the twistable.  Comparing these crayons to the earlier boxes, Crayola has changed the design quite a bit.  This design features red swirls and is still in color. I purposely only took a picture of the outside of the Color Alive page, because if I took a picture of the image anyone who printed it could use it and I do not want to get in trouble for that.

8 Count Crayola Twistable Crayons: What's Inside the Box

This is the first Crayola twistables post I am writing and I had to start with the oldest box I had of course. The Crayola twistables were introduced in 1998 and are still around today.  They are honestly not one of my favorite things to color with.  I do not know why.  I  have not colored with them much, but maybe if I gave them a try I would like them more.  My daughter got some as a gift when she was young, but I think she was too young to use them, and just spread them around the house.  Sadly I threw away her box because she never kept them in the box.  Whey didn't I at least take a picture? The idea of twistables is really neat.  They come in pencil and crayon form.  The barrel is twisted and the twistable comes out.  They do not break easy since they are only out a little bit, unless small kids use them, twist the barrel all the out and break the color sticking out.  I would recommend these for older kids. I will have to let her try them again.

Crayola did not specify these twistables were crayons on the box, but since it is in the 52 style family it is a crayon.  In later years Crayola differentiated on the box the different colors.

I love the design of the twistables, they are in color and they have color names. It really bugs me when Crayola does not name their colors.  I also like the box design, it is easy to store.

Crayola eXtreme colors colored pencils, markers & twistables: What's Inside the Box

I love bright colors and I love Crayola eXtreme colors ultra-bright colored pencils, markers, and twistables.   They make very bright marks on the paper with the tag line "Color on the Wild Side".  There are 8 pencils, markers, and twistables in each package.  They did not use the same colors in the packages. The pencils do not have a purple, but an extra red color. The colored pencils and twistables are very similar and only vary by the Arctic Lime and Frostbite colors. By the way I love when there is a theme to Crayola art supplies and they come in different drawing mediums.
