Derwent 72 Lightfast Colored Pencils

I first learned how cool Derwent Colored Pencils were at the 2021 Creativation/Art Materials World Convention. I had heard of them before, but I had never tried them. I asked to meet with Derwent at the conference. After the conference I asked if I could try some colored pencils and they sent me the 72 Derwent Lightfast Colored Pencils in exchange for an honest review. The day they came in the mail I was so surprised. I did not know they were coming! It was like Christmas. I got to try them out this week and I am in love! They may be one of my favorite colored pencils. Here are all the color swatches.

This swatch chart was done on Hahnemuhle Bamboo paper. It is especially good at picking up all the pigment from the colored pencils. Click here to get the Hahnemuhle Bamboo Paper.

Here are the pencils on black paper. Most of the colors pick up very well. They also blend very well.

Why might they be some of my favorite colored pencils? Look at the picture below. The colors are super vibrant and saturated. They go down super smooth and they blend really easily. I colored the following picture with only 8 colored pencils.

Derwent has many product lines: Watercolor, Lightfast, Artist's Color, Studio, Graphitint, Coloursoft, Inktense, Charcoal, Procolour, Sketching, Tinted Charcoal, Pastel Pencils, and Chromaflow. Lightfast is one of their top pencil lines because the colors will not fade away with time and they are super pigmented. They are very similar to Polychromos colored pencils. I think they have a few too many product lines. It is a little confusing. They should find their best ones and reduce it down. Polychromos only has one product line and all their colors are consistent. All the colors are not consistent with Derwent.
