64 Count Crayola Colored Pencils: What's Inside the Box

I have always been in love withe larger count of Crayola products and the 64 Crayola Colored Pencils are no exception.  I love the littleness of them and all the colors.  Unfortunately because they are so small Crayola did not put the color names on the pencils and they did not put it on the back of the box.  It drives me crazy when the colors are not named.  I have used these pencils a lot and love all the color choices I have when using them.

4, 16, and 24 Count Crayola Washable Crayons: What's Inside the Box

Crayola washable crayons have been around for a while, but only was it in 2014 that they were given new packaging and a new name, Ultra-Clean ColorMAX.  These boxes are the boxes before those boxes were introduced.  I am sure there are more out there, but I am happy to have a few.  They are super washable and wipe off easily from the wall, something I'm really glad for with a two year old :)

How are the crayons so washable and how were they tested? In the patent it says, "The crayons obtained had excellent washability. Crayon marks were made on various surfaces by applying 5 hand strokes on top of each other. The crayon marks were easily washed off painted tile boards having two coats of flat white paint thereon. A wet paper towel was employed to wipe off the marks. The marks wiped off completely as determined visually. The crayon marks were similarly washed off wallpaper. Crayon marks on fabrics, 100% cotton and 50/50 cotton/polyester, were washed off in a clothes washing machine using TIDE.TM. powder detergent with a hot water wash. The fabrics were dried under the normal drying setting. The marks were removed completely, as determined visually. No residual stain was observed on all substrates tested above."

8 Count Crayola Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I got this 8 count Crayola box of crayons from a friend. It was missing a few colors, but I found out which ones it came with and was able to borrow a few colors from another set to make a complete set.

One of the cool things about this box is the style number appears on the bottom flap of the box.  I have not seen style numbers before the 1960's, but I could be wrong.  I would love to see more 8 count boxes from this time period to see precisely when Crayola started using the style numbers.  It does not have a code number.

Crayola Twistables Colored Pencils with Color Alive: What's Inside the Box

I mostly bought the Crayola Twistables colored pencils this year because of the new color alive inserts in both of them.  I do not normally buy the new boxes of the classic colors because there are so many and I like to focus the storage space I have on the specialty sets, but this year I was excited to get Color Alive coloring book sheets. I do wish I had more of the classic colors, or at least their style and code numbers, to better tell the story of Crayola.  I plan on putting all the ones I have online in the near future. I plan on using them with my kiddos, making a copy of it and having them color it over and over.

I love the new box design for the Twistables, they were in a plastic packaging before, but they have changed to the standard colored pencils packaging.  I like the colors and swirl design on the twistables, the colored pencils are black.  What I do not like is that they do not have the color names on them anymore :( I really like color names to be on the writing instrument. It appears to be the first year this particular 18 count box is being sold (I think it was the addition of the fluorescent colors), and for the 30 count box, it appears there are at least 12 other prior boxes.

6 Count Crayola Fluorescent Markers: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola fluorescent markers came out in 1990 with the rerelease of the fluorescent crayons.  The crayons had been around for years, but this is the first year the markers came out (I think because of the -200 code number). I found the 1998 box of Crayola Fluorescent markers surprisingly this year at a teacher supply store.  I was shocked.  The box is from 1998 and it still works!  I had to pick them up even though they were a lot more money than a normal 6 pack of markers.  I have always been partial to bright colors.

It is interesting to note that the 1990 markers are washable whereas the 1998 markers are not washable.  I wonder why Crayola changed this detail for the two markers.  The names in both boxes are the same. I wonder if they made two lines of fluorescent markers washable and washable for years. The style number 58-7848 belongs to the washable fluorescent markers and the 58-7748 belongs to the non washable fluorescent markers.

The code number is not on the back of these boxes, but on the inside flap on top.  I forgot about it when I was taking the picture and will get a picture soon.  This is one my oldest box of markers, even though I bought it only this year.  I am sad there is not a good website to find information on Crayola marker history.  Hopefully with time and with people sharing their photos, the story of the Crayola marker can come together more.

Crayola Neon Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I love cute little boxes of Crayola crayons and the 8 count Crayola Neon crayons are no exception.  I was a little surprised when I opened the the box and found sky blue, shamrock, melon and carnation pink in the box, they did not seem neon to me. I even went to Walgreens this week to make sure they were really the colors that were supposed to be in the box.  The colors in the other neon 8 count boxes were atomic tangerine, *blizzard blue, laser lemon, outrageous orange, *razzle dazzle rose, shocking pink, *screamin green, *wild watermelon.  Some of the missing colors in this set are retired, some are not, maybe the other colors were not as popular but very similar in color.

The other box in this post is the first time Crayola made an 8 count Neon Crayola crayon box in 1994. Crayola also released an 8 and 16 count regular sized Neon box at the time too.

10 Count Crayola Twistables Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I bought the 2015 Crayola Twistables crayons for one reason, the color alive bonus.  I typically do not buy products I already own even if their is a different version of them.  For example, the 24 count and 8 count boxes, I do not buy the new one every year.  Not that I do not like them, but I really like collecting the specialty boxes.  If I had all the room in the world for my collection I would buy them, I am just selective so it does not explode. I wanted to get one of each of the specialty Color Alive pictures Crayola is putting out this year.  These special pages feature Tip on them doing different activities.  I love Tip, it was a great move for Crayola to start marketing him more.

I love everything about this box design.  It is in a box and easy to open.  The only thing I am not in love with this set of Twistables is that they have stopped putting the crayon name on the twistable.  Comparing these crayons to the earlier boxes, Crayola has changed the design quite a bit.  This design features red swirls and is still in color. I purposely only took a picture of the outside of the Color Alive page, because if I took a picture of the image anyone who printed it could use it and I do not want to get in trouble for that.

8 Count Crayola Twistable Crayons: What's Inside the Box

This is the first Crayola twistables post I am writing and I had to start with the oldest box I had of course. The Crayola twistables were introduced in 1998 and are still around today.  They are honestly not one of my favorite things to color with.  I do not know why.  I  have not colored with them much, but maybe if I gave them a try I would like them more.  My daughter got some as a gift when she was young, but I think she was too young to use them, and just spread them around the house.  Sadly I threw away her box because she never kept them in the box.  Whey didn't I at least take a picture? The idea of twistables is really neat.  They come in pencil and crayon form.  The barrel is twisted and the twistable comes out.  They do not break easy since they are only out a little bit, unless small kids use them, twist the barrel all the out and break the color sticking out.  I would recommend these for older kids. I will have to let her try them again.

Crayola did not specify these twistables were crayons on the box, but since it is in the 52 style family it is a crayon.  In later years Crayola differentiated on the box the different colors.

I love the design of the twistables, they are in color and they have color names. It really bugs me when Crayola does not name their colors.  I also like the box design, it is easy to store.

Star Wars Collectible Crayon Tins: What's Inside the Box

I present the Crayola Star Wars Crayons 64 count boxes and tins.  These boxes came out on September 4, 2015, #SharetheForce day.  That hashtag is actually the hash tag from Target and these boxes are not available there.  All the stores had a huge day and released all their Star Wars merchandise on the same day.  I do not know why it was so early, the movie does not come out until December.  They could have waited for a couple of months, but I suspect it is because they wanted to get the Star Wars toys out there for Christmas season.  And of course it was the 4th because May the 4th has become May the Force be with you do, with every one and their dog posting pictures about Star Wars that day.

DryErase Fine Line Markers: What's Inside the Box

I am very excited to try the Crayola Dry Erase Fine Line Markers.  I have been using a dry erase board more at home and not all of the markers erase very well.  I can not wait to try these out and see if they work better than the other ones I have.

It is interesting to note that the back of the box is not in color, it is in black and white.  Crayola also pointed out these markers had a different design and would not get mistaken for the other markers, which is a great point.  We have all our Crayola markers in a container, pip-squeaks, regular, and dry erase.  My son uses all of them to draw on his dry erase board. Another interesting note is these markers fall in the 98 style family instead of the usual 58 marker style family.

6 Count Crayola Glitter Markers: What's Inside the Box

I have had many glittery pens before, but the Crayola Glitter Markers are my favorite.  They are super glittery and super bold.  The marker does not have to be colored much, unlike the pens for the color to be seen.  I got this package as a gift from my husband and kids. I love the packaging too, packaging that can be opened and closed.  The markers are also named, another plus.  I can not wait to get the sister to this package, the metallic markers.
