72 Mondo Llama Colored Pencils

In 2021 Target came out with it's own brand of art supplies, Mondo Llama. The price point is a little higher than Crayola products. I was excited for it, but after buying a set of colored pencils I am not excited anymore. The pencils have no color names! Well some of them do, but not all. What? And that is a big draw back in my opinion. Color names are essential especially if the supplies are not cheap. The 72 colored pencil Mondo Llama set was 25 dollars.

Another drawback is the colored pencils do not have an AP symbol on the back of the box. That symbol means the supplies have been tested by experts and are not toxic to kids. That is super important in my book to have.

Here are some of the other art supplies they sell. I think it is interesting how they have integrated their Mondo Llama supplies in with the Crayola section. Mondo Llama sells everything from markers, colored pencils, waterbrush markers, canvas, wood art projects, paint, stickers, craft items etc. It will be interesting to see if this line last and how long. I could see getting the more craft side of the supplies, but I probably will not get the actual art supplies.

Back to the art supplies here is the swatch chart of the 72 colored pencils. There were no color names except for some colors, so I used the letter number naming system. The pencils could be labeled with the new name to be able to find it again easily.

Up and Up School Supplies from Target

Up & Up are school supplies that are made by Target. I have the washable markers, #2 pencils and watercolors. There are more supplies such as crayons, glue, pencil sharpeners, index cards, colored pencils, pocket portfolios, construction paper, scissors, erasers, dry erase markers, compass/protractor, spiral notebooks, sticky notes, highlighters, mechanical pencils, binders, composition notebook, pocket folder, school caddies, paper trays, paint and marker pads, drawing paper, printer paper, drawing book, paper clips, legal pads, glue sticks, and zipper binders. They make a lot of stuff. Target often does this with many items. They have store brands. It is usually cheaper than the other brands. The quality is pretty good. I have bought up & up for my kids school supplies before. I also have a box of crayons, but I do not have a picture yet. I will post those when I get those taken.

I received the following items from Target. All opinions are my own. This blog post contains affiliate links.

Here is the color information for the markers. The watercolors are not named.

2011 Target Pick Your Pack Boxes: What's Inside the Box

Crayola and Target collaborated together in 2011 to create the Pick Your Pack themed boxes first in 2011. The boxes contain a theme with coordinating colors for each box. There are some really good ideas for color combinations in these boxes. There were three launches that year.

The 2011 boxes were released at different times.
  • The original set included; Monster Party!, Princess party, Rock Star Party, Sweet! Party, P-ARRR-TY!, and All-Star Party. I am missing Monster Party!, Princess party, Rock Star Party and Sweet! Party and hope someday to find them.
  • The next launch included; Cupcake My Day, Dinosaur Roar, Jellybean Jumble, Jungle Rumble, Mermaid Shimmer, Neon Dreams, Summertime and Winter Chillin'.  I am also missing Summertime from that release.
  • The next launch included;  Awesome Autumn, Born to Rock, Dandy Candy, Deep Blue Sea, Dinosaur Roar, Glitterati, Gum Ball Blast, Jungle Rumble, Jellybean Jumble, Mermaid Shimmer, Metallic Magic, Monster Mania, Over the Rainbow, Pink Princess, Pirate's Treasure, Rocker Girl, Spring Fling, Sports Fan, Sweet Shop, and Sundae Sprinkles.
As you can see this is these are the most difficult to find boxes. The first launch is the most collectible and sells for really high prices on ebay. I hope one day to have them all.

2013 Target Pick Your Pack Boxes: What's Inside the Box

Crayola and Target collaborated together in 2011 to create the Pick Your Pack themed boxes first in 2011. 2013 marks the first year that they changed the bottom left corner of the box from "Only at Target" to "Pick Your Pack". I thought at first it was to be able to sell them at other locations, but they continued to sold exclusively at Target. The boxes contain a theme with coordinating colors for each box. There are some really good ideas for color combinations in these boxes.

Crayola re-released 11 of the boxes (Back to Basics, Bejewled, Born to Rock, Cupcake My Day, Dinosaur Roar, Fashionista, Glitterati, Mermaid Shimmer, Neon Dreams, Pink Princess, and Pirate's Treasure) with the only change being the bottom left corner to Pick Your Pack. The rest are new boxes.

2014 Target Pick Your Pack Boxes: What's Inside the Box

Crayola and Target began their collaboration for themed boxes in 2011. Every year between 2011 and 2014 a new themed box set would come out. 2014 is the first year that Crayola came out with a 16 count themed box set. I happen to like these a little more because there are more colors to chose from. This would be the last year for a few years Crayola would come out with a new themed set. The next set came out in 2017.

3 Easy Preschool Valentines Activities, Target Mailboxes and Hearts and Sugar Cookies

I teach preschool for my kids. For Valentines Day we decorated some mailboxes from Target.  Then we sewed some Valentines hearts and then frosted sugar cookies.  Each kid had a different colored mailbox and got to pick out which stickers they wanted to use to decorate it with.  I also had letter stickers to so they could put their names on them.

Here are the finished mailboxes. They all turned out so unique. The kids then put their Valentines into each of the boxes.

If you do not want to find the stickers yourself Target is selling mailboxes with stickers this year.

Here are the Valentine hearts we made.  All the kids liked it.  The Spritz package from Target came with lots of different colors.  I have seen these hearts there this year. The needles were safe for the kid.  They got got put stuffing into the hearts and decorate them how they wanted to.  It was a good hand eye coordination for the kid.

After that we decorated sugar cookies. Here is the recipe. The kids all got to put on as much icing as they wanted and they got to choose the sprinkles they put on the cookies.  They all turned out different.

Crayola Target (including Target Red) and Walmart Crayons: What's Inside the Box

I have been searching for the Crayola Target Red and Walmart 8 count boxes for a while now. The Target Red box features a very unique crayon color called Target Red. The Walmart box does not feature any unique colors, but is one of the first time that Crayola started to do themed boxes for stores, something they love to do now. I picked these up on eBay. I think Target sponsored this box and sold it in stores along with a 48 count crayon box and 8 count marker box. The next year Walmart did the same. I bet it was to keep up with Target. This sort of thing also happened when Crayola released the Pick Your Pack boxes at Target. They released them at Target the first year. The within a couple years there were new boxes and Walmart also had their own assortment of boxes. I personally liked the Walmart line of boxes better. I like that they feature the color of the crayon combinations on the box.

Crayola-Target Multicolor Poptimism Set: Crayons, 64 Pip Squeak Skinnies, 64 Colored Pencils, 64 Chalk, 64 Markers

I found out about the Crayola Mulitcolor Poptimism set on Instagram. The boxes are designed specifically for Target and located in the seasonal section. It fits in really well with the rest of the Target seasonal summer section. They are labeling it as a special edition. There are a lot of bold and rainbow colors on the boxes. I bought the crayons and colored pencils, because I did not want to spend the money for the other sets even though they are really cool boxes. I have a hard time buying sets of other art supplies besides colored pencils and crayons that do not have unique colors in them. One is storage space and the other is the expense. Check out these sets at Target, I have a feeling they will only be around for a while!

What is Poptimism? Poptimism is the rise of pop in the 2000 and 2010's as a dominant music form taking on the same significance as Rock N Roll.

2017 Crayola Pick Your Pack: What's Inside the Box

You can imagine my surprise when I found a new Pick Your Pack series when wandering the aisles of Target.  I thought 2014 was going to be the last year they were going to make the series.  The series start in 2011 as 8 count boxes with an Only At T in the bottom right corner of the crayon box. It was a test series in select Target markets.  It expanded to more color combinations in 2012 and in 2013. Crayola changed the bottom right corner of the box to say Pick You Pack instead.  In 2014 they made new boxes, but also introduced 16 count boxes.

This year the 2017 boxes have totally been redesigned.  I did not like the new design at first, but it is growing on me.  They are more colorful and cartoon like, probably to entice little kids to get them.  The Sparkle Party! box remind me of my little pony.  They also feature the colors of the crayons inside the boxes on the front of the box. This helps the consumer know which crayons colors they are getting.

8 Count Frozen Themed Crayola Crayon Box Set: What's Inside the box

I almost missed the 8 Frozen Themed Crayola box set sold at Target.  They came out in 2014 in conjunction with the Disney Junior and Disney box sets.  Since that time Finding Dory has had it's own set of themed boxes. I'm so glad I was able to get a hold of these boxes. I was visiting Target often and never saw them.  I also missed the Disney Junior set.  Luckily fellow collectors had both of these boxes and I was able to get them from them.  The Frozen themed boxes feature colors inspired by Elsa, Olaf and Anna.  The colors with with each character very well.  The box came wrapped in plastic with a cardboard backing. I think they were meant for collecting.  I am so happy I found a box to buy!

Crayola Piggy Banks: What's Inside the Tin

I bought these Crayola metal piggy bank tins for my kids. The tins are shaped like giant crayons and have a hole in the side of the crayon for money.  They come in the colors denim, razzmatazz, royal purple and shamrock.  I have seen other versions of the tins in different colors and different sizes. They unfortunately do not last very long with little kids, but would probably far better with old kids. I'm so glad I took a picture when I did because I'm going to have to throw them away soon because they are all bent. The kids kept getting into our money and I thought these would be a good idea to teach them how to save their money. I guess they are still a little young. They loved them but the money never stayed in and now I'm going to have to throw them away soon because they are very bent!

Crayola Take-Along Tissues

These Crayola Take-Along Tissues were available for 1 dollar each in the Target Dollar Spot during back to school time in 2015.  I loved the design of the packaging.  My son loved it too and opened on of the packages.  I was sad, but I am so glad I got pictures of them before he did that.  These tissues are not made by Crayola, they outsource a lot of their merchandise.  The tissues were plain white once out of the packaging.

4 Easy St Patricks Day Activties for Preschoolers: 6 Green Foods, Treasure Hunt, Michael's Masks and Bingo

I hosted the preschool St. Patrick's Day party one year at preschool.  These activities can be used for  activities with your kids activities at home too. For this activity we had green foods, did a treasure hunt, colored masks and played Bingo. The kids also all dressed in green for our party.  It was very festive.

I am a big proponent of getting kids to eat healthy and that can be done by making it available to them.  I found 6 green foods the kids could eat.  My kids had not tried kiwi before and now they beg for it all the time.

Here are the 6 green healthy foods I found at my local grocery store.
  1. Cucumber
  2. Grapes
  3. Sugar Snap Peas
  4. Kiwi
  5. Brocooflower-a combination of broccoli and cauliflower
  6. Veggies Straws
The kids loved eating all the food, even if they did not eat all of them, and it was healthy.

Next we colored some wood masks from Michaels.  The kids loved coloring on the wood and they all turned out so differently.

I found these buckets at Bulls Eye's Playground or the Dollar Spot at Target and told the kids we were going on a treasure hunt. I hid the buckets in a certain room. They had to find treasure using the clues around the house. They used their masks they had made and went searching. At the end of the map there was a rainbow with a pot of gold to show them they had found the buckets of treasure. I put gold edible coins, stickers and gold play coins in all the buckets.

We also played bingo with green m&m's. I got the bingo sheets from The School Supply Addict.  The kids got to eat the m&m's afterwards. All in all the kids had a wonderful green time. Many of these activities could be used in preschool and for preschool parties in elementary school.

Crayola Pick Your Pack Coloring Books

In 2012 Crayola tested the market with Pick Your Pack crayons.  In 2014 the last year they have come out with new boxes they introduced three coloring books only sold at Target; Glitter & Shimmer, Rainbow Magic and Dino Treasure.  These books were very hard to find, I had to check about 3 Targets to find them. I am so happy to have them in my collection.  They are not selling them anymore and they go perfect with the crayon boxes.

Here is a little trivia, Metallic Magic and Super Heroic were never sold as Pick Your Pack boxes, but they have a Pick Your Pack symbol on the bottom left on the coloring books.

Crayola Minions Crayons and Pip•Squeaks Markers

To say the Minions movie is promoting the movie is an understatement.  They are way promoting their movie.  I have seen Minions inspired products everywhere!  Toys, Play-Doh, Crayola Alive, anything marketed for a kid they have it.  Disney really needs to learn a thing or two about the marketing.  They did not have any Frozen items available, not a lot of Big Hero 6 items available when the movies were released.  They could have made millions with all the merchandising. And I am sure my daughter would have eaten up Crayola Alive with any sort of Disney character.

Universal Studios partnered with Target and Crayola to release a special line of crayon and Pip•Squeaks boxes. They along the same lines as the Target Pick Your Pack Boxes and Walmart Tip Collection boxes.  The marker boxes do not have names, but coordinate with the matching crayon boxes.  The markers have pictures of all the Minions on them.

Crayola My Color Is 8 Count: What's Inside the Box

The Crayola My Color Is series includes the colors; blue, pink, purple, green, orange, red, black and yellow. It was sold in 2015 at Target stores. The boxes included: Window Crayons, Pip-Squeak Skinnies Markers, Short Colored Pencils, Dry-Erase Crayon, Pip-Squeak Marker, Mini Twistables Crayon, and a Color Sticks Colored Pencil.

My husband bought these boxes for me for my birthday. They were expensive at 4.99 each, but I absolutely love them.  The back features quotes from kids on all the colors.  My kids really want a box.  I let my son use the window crayons, and will probably pick them up a box when they go on clearance.

An interesting note is that Crayola has trademarked the "My Color Is" name.
